A free toolkit to bring private investment into screen

Screen Australia has released the Private Investment Toolkit, a free interactive platform designed to help producers attract private investment and support a more sustainable, market-led screen sector.
It was developed with a taskforce of specialists in finance, tax, investment, philanthropy, law, education and production, and offers practical resources that help producers and investors work together with transparency, standard terms and deal readiness.
What it covers
- Preparing projects with a market-informed mindset that complements public funding with private capital.
- Investment structures matched to what an investor wants, whether commercial return, social and cultural impact, or philanthropy.
- Clear guidance for investors on where, how and why to engage with screen projects.
Screen Australia’s Chief Operating Officer Grainne Brunsdon said the toolkit shows investors that screen can deliver influence, ownership and cultural impact as well as returns. Producer and investor Deanne Weir called it a gift to both sides, bridging the knowledge gap between those with capital and those who need it.
Why it matters
Clearer financing pathways help independent producers build projects that can stand on their own, and make it easier for new partners, in Australia and abroad, to back ambitious stories.
