Screen Australia funds 47 documentaries with $5.7 million

Screen Australia has committed more than $5.7 million in production and development funding to 47 documentaries, supporting both established and emerging teams with distinctively Australian voices and perspectives.
Among the projects
- Bondi, a feature documentary from Mint Pictures and director Amanda Blue, told through the voices of survivors, families, everyday heroes and first responders.
- Saving Tuvalu, an Australian/German co-production following three young Tuvaluans using digital preservation to protect their culture as seas rise.
- A deeply personal film about traumatic brain injury from filmmaker Randall Wood.
Head of Documentary Richard Huddleston described a sector that is ambitious and finding new ways to collaborate, from significant international co-productions to direct-to-audience partnerships. He pointed to Screen Currency 2026, which found that 71% of Australians have taken some form of action after watching local screen content.
Why it matters
The mix of local stories and international co-productions shows documentaries travelling further than ever, which is where cross-border production partners add real value.
